Hyperlinks

Give a layer a link, and clicking it in the exported SVG opens a web page, an email, a phone number or an #anchor on the same page.

Do it in the editor: guided tour3 steps · about 2 minutes · opens a practice scene

Step by step

  1. Select the button

Click Button in the Layers panel.

  2. Type the address

In Hyperlink, the inspector's last section, type svgcinema.com in Link and press Enter. https:// is added for you, and the button's row in the Layers panel gets a link mark.

  3. Choose where it opens

Once there is a link, Opens appears below it. Pick Same tab to open the page in place of yours; a new tab is the default.

Good to know. Links work in the exported SVG, not on the editor's canvas. A browser follows them when the SVG is part of the page (pasted in, or in an object tag, where Same tab opens the page inside the object's box), not when it is shown as an image. Web addresses, mailto:, tel: and #anchors only. Clear the field to remove the link; right-click › Hyperlink… edits the same link.
