ANIMATE

Editing many layers

Select several layers and change them as one: the inspector shows what they have in common, and every value, colour or keyframe you set goes on all of them. Select same picks every layer that shares a colour, a stroke or a type.

The three yellow stars turn together, then rest until the animation starts over; the white ones stay still.
WHAT YOU’LL MAKE

The three yellow stars turn together, then rest until the animation starts over; the white ones stay still. This one is the real exported SVG, playing.

Do it in the editor: guided tour6 steps · about 3 minutes · opens a practice scene

Step by step

  1. Select a yellow star

Click the first star, or its row in the Layers panel.

  2. Select the same fill

Click the Select same button beside the layer name at the top of the inspector, then Fill color. All three yellow stars are selected, and the inspector's header reads 3 layers.

  3. Start a track on all three

Click beside Rotate. Each selected star gets its own Rotate track, with a keyframe at the playhead.

  4. Move the playhead to 2s

Drag the red playhead along the time ruler to 2s.

  5. Turn them all

Type 144 in Rotate and press Enter. Each star turns around its own centre, and gets its keyframe at 2s.

  6. Play it

Press Space. The yellow stars turn together; the white ones stay still.

Good to know. On the canvas, Shift+click adds a layer to the selection or takes it out; in the Layers panel, Ctrl+click does, and Shift+click selects a run of rows. A field whose value differs between the selected layers reads Mixed. On the canvas, one box goes around the whole selection: drag it to move them all, or its handles to scale and turn them together. To start layers one after another, use a preset's Stagger.
